Why CGS?

See what life is like at CGS!

The Center for Global Studies isn’t just like any other magnet school.

Students come from towns and cities all across Fairfield County with one shared passion: a love for learning and culture studies.

Through the study of Arabic, Chinese, and Japanese, and also our language and cultural immersion study tours overseas, we provide our students opportunities to become informed, active, compassionate scholars and global citizens. CGS in an inclusive environment that celebrates diversity, inclusion and equity. To learn more about the Center for Global Studies’ staff and teachers, see Staff Directory.

Every student can succeed.

The Center for Global Studies prioritizes our students’ academic and social wellbeing equally. We believe that in order for any student to succeed, they must be in both an adequate headspace and an adequate environment. We offer counseling to all students whenever needed, as the students at the Center for Global Studies are always our number one priority. With a graduation rate of ~95%, we are certain that our students have what it takes to work hard and give it their all.

A rigorous and extensive education experience.

Here at the Center for Global Studies, we offer a rich and thorough language-learning program. We go beyond the norm; we don’t just touch the surface of a language, as we are committed to broaden our student’s mindsets as they become global citizens. One of our main focuses at the Center for Global Studies is that our students gain new global perspectives and cultural understandings. Once a student has graduated from the Center for Global Studies, we hope they leave viewing the world through a mindful, international lens.

A friendly, diverse environment.

The Center for Global Studies’ students are not just great learners and leaders, but are also open-minded and accepting. We pride ourselves on being a tight-knit community with both diversity and unity, as well as a student’s ability to find others like them. For more information, see Equity and Inclusion.

Study tours across the world

Endless opportunities.

Along with study tours, the Center for Global Studies offers many other great opportunities to our students. We offer a liberal arts study course that serves as a rigorous preparation for college, with college-level courses and engaging extracurricular work. We are currently a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate

The Center for Global Studies offers many after-school clubs and activities, from extra assistance with courses to fun clubs focused on creative expression. Annual potlucks and cultural events are held to promote a family-like unity throughout our school. In addition, students are allowed to host exchange students from across the globe among many other opportunities which set the Center for Global Studies apart from other schools.

Equity and Inclusion

The Center for Global Studies knows that there is much more to the world than just Fairfield County. Our main mission is to help students look past their differences and focus on living in unity and in appreciation of other cultures. We accept students with open arms despite their race, gender identity, religion, sexual orientation, or anything else that may make them feel outcast.

We have no tolerance for any sort of harassment or discrimination against anyone or any group(s) of people. We strive for the Center for Global Studies to be a safe space where all students feel not just comfortable in attending, but excited as well. If any student ever feels uncomfortable in any shape or form, they are encouraged to speak to a staff member for assistance.
The bottom line is: inclusivity is something that the Center for Global Studies takes pride in.
